Abstract
The life story of Ruth Ellis, an openly gay African-American woman who is celebrating her 100th birthday. (TCM) This is Yvonne Welbon’s M.F.A. thesis film.
Born July 23, 1899, Ruth Ellis was thought to be the oldest "out" African American lesbian. Her story offers a rare opportunity to experience a century of our history as lived by one inspiring woman. Ellis passed away October 5, 2000 at age 101. --Sisters in Cinema
