Title

The Second Epidemic

Subject

AIDS, woman filmmaker, feminist, family, sexuality

Description

Acquired for research for my doctoral disseration, then monograph, AIDS TV.  Gifted for me for research on my doctoral dissertation on AIDS activist video by friends and fellow activists Amber Hollibaugh and Alisa Lebow.

An informative documentary on discrimination cases negotiated by NYC s Human Right Commission. Examined in details are two stories of people living with AIDS: Margie Rivera, a young woman living in Massachussetts which first expressed and then overcame its prejudices by providing support to a young AIDS patient and his family.Amber was my friend and colleague and fellow AIDS activist videomaker. We were working on representing women and AIDS early in the life of the epidemic within a feminist and lesbian activist community. Amber was an inspiration to me, and to the world, a tireless activist, artist, and champion of lesbian feminism and radical justice.

More on her life and work can be found in the LA Times
