Description
Works acquired for research for my doctoral disseration, and then monograph, "AIDS TV" by friends and colleagues in the AIDS activist video movement. Sacred Lies/Civil Truths is by filmmakers Cyrille Phipps and Catherine Saalfield. The film is a document of the religious right's blatant and hateful attacks against the lesbian and gay community.
A Part of Me is a portrait of for GMHC's Living with AIDS Show, 1993. Featuring Alida "Lilly" Gonzalez.
Made by my friends and longtime collaborators Juanita Mohammed Szczepanski and Alisa Lebow for the Gay Men's Health Crisis's Living with AIDS Show. I did many and varied projects with both of them over the decades, including co-editing the Blackwell Anthology on Contemporary Documentary with Alisa, and making many videos and public events with Juanita, including her final work, "I Want to Leave a Legacy." To learn more about Juanita's work as a community based videomaker, mother, wife, and friend please see her memorial on the Visual AIDS website.

Abstract
A Part of Me: For Gay Men Health Crisis's [GMHC] "Living with AIDS Show", 1993. Featuring Alida "Lilly" Gonzalez. By Juanita Mohammed and Alisa Lebow. Runtime 00:10:56
Amid a galloping onslaught of misinformation and violence, lesbians and gay men in the U.S. are struggling harder than ever to claim their civil and human rights. While the insurgent Religious Right mobilizes to implement anti-gay measures state by state, the lesbian and gay community is activating to turn the tide of discrimination and keep its eyes on federal gay rights at the same time. The film is a document of the religious right’s blatant and hateful attacks against the lesbian and gay community and it reveals the real agenda of the Christian Right to gain power and impose a “Biblical rule”.’ --Letterboxed
