Title

Caring Sequences [Compilation]

Subject

AIDS, activist video, African American, family, female filmmaker, Black women, spiritual, Latin/x, families

Description

Acquired for research for my doctoral disseration, and then monograph, "AIDS TV." Made by my friend and colleague, Juanita Mohammed Szczepanski for GMHC's Living with AIDS Show. I continued to work with Juanita, and included her in the Day With(out) Art video compilation, Compulsive Practice. She was interviewed for my 2001 book Women of Vision and later (2019) participated, with her grandaughter, Pharah, in the Feminist Media Histories revisit "Informed Historical Reveries," co-edited with Angela Agauyo. Juanita was a community-based AIDS video activist. You can learn more about her life and career on her memorial page on the Visual AIDS website.
